Treatment for renal disease
Active Ingredients
Calcitriol 1.0μg
1. Treatment for hypocalcemia in chronic kidney dialysis patients. 2. Improvement of skeletal dysplasia by remarkable reducing elevated parathyroid hormone levels.
Dosage of the drug must be determined carefully for every patient.
○ The initial recommended dose of the drug, as calcitriol, is administered three times a week with 0.5 µg (about 0.01 µg per kg body weight) every other day. the drug, an IV bolus, can be administered through a catheter at the end of hemodialysis. If a satisfactory response does not appear on the biochemical reference and clinical observation, the amount is increased from 0.25 to 0.50 ㎍ every 2 to 4 weeks.
Most patients on hemodialysis show an effect at a dose of 0.5 to 3.0 µg (0.05 to 0.05 µg per kg body weight) three times a week.
○ Cautions for use
1) Serum calcium and phosphorus levels should be measured at least twice a week during the appropriate period for dose determination. However, if the serum calcium level exceeds the upper limit of the standard by 0.5 mg/dL, separately increase the measurement frequency (at least once a week), and take into account weight loss, etc., and administer it carefully. In addition, if the serum calcium level exceeds the upper limit of the reference by 1 mg/dL, the drug is canceled immediately.
After confirming whether the serum calcium level has decreased to the reference due to the drug withdrawal, the administration is resumed taking into account the reduction in the dose before the drug withdrawal. For hypoalbuminemia (Serum albumin levels < 4.0 g/dL), it is recommended to use the corrected value as an index.
- Corrected calcium equation - calculator: Corrected calcium level (mg/dL) = serum calcium level (mg/dL)-serum albumin level (g/dL) + 4.0
